Project description
12.05.2003 - In August 2000, a customer placed an order with MAN Turbo for the delivery of an integrally geared compressor in the form of a combined compressor for the BENXI STEEL steelworks in China. The compressor forms part of the air separation plant that is situated upstream of the steelworks and supplies approx. 20,000 Nm³/h of oxygen for the steelmaking process. The plant is being commissioned in 2003.
Product description
The integrally geared type RG90/3+4 compressor is driven by an electric motor with a rated output of 14,000 kW. It is designed to operate using atmospheric air and dry air. Depending on the plant requirements, the stage groups can be separated from one another for individual operation or operated jointly. The combined compressor has a total of four pinion shafts and two split joints. The three atmospheric air stages are arranged with two pinion shafts on the lower split joint. Two pinion shafts are located on the upper split joint for the four dry air stages.
Customer benefit
This compact MAN Turbo solution has already been tried and tested in a number of installations of the same or a similar configuration worldwide. The combined integrally geared compressor design saves the customer space and money compared with similar solutions.
